Murang’a established a new department to handle devolution and external linkages

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has created a new department in efforts to strengthen devolution and establish external linkages with development partners.

The new department will be handled by Dr Kamau Kiringai formerly Agriculture and Livestock CEM, who have new responsibilities among them monitor, evaluate and oversee the management of devolved functions under the County Government.

 Kiringai   will establish external linkages nationally and internationally to provide the County with both financial and technical support.

Murang’a, the governor said is one of the counties set to receive world bank support for devolution under Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP II) that is aimed to support capacity building and technical assistance.

In a statement, the Governor said he was advised by the state department of devolution to establish a department for devolution to enable absorption of these funds.

“The creation of the new department has necessitated the merger of departments of Trade and Agriculture that will be under CEM Kimani Mugo which will be known as Agriculture, Trade, Industrialisation and Cooperative Department,” said Kanga’ta.
