Murang’a government rolls out plans to decongest the county referral hospital

Murang’a county administration has employed various measures to address congestion currently witnessed at the county Level-5 hospital. The county referral facility in the recent past, the has witnessed influx of patients especially from neighbouring counties stretching the available resources in the hospital.

In a public notice, the county government led by Governor Irungu Kang’ata announced that for the past one week, nine doctors have been employed. The doctors are deemed to be deployed to Muriranjas and Kigumo Level 4 facilities with the aim of absorbing patients from the county referral hospital.

“These doctors will be stationed at Muriranjas and Kigumo Level 4 hospitals, expanding medical access and easing the pressure on Murang’a Level 5.” Stated the county government. The Kang’ata’s administration also is working to complete new hospital buildings in Muriranjas and Kigumo hospitals so as to increase inpatient capacity.

“Patients will soon be admitted at Muriranjas and Kigumo Level 4 hospitals once a new building is completed. This will help reduce the patient load at Murang’a Level 5.” The notice indicated. In the notice, the county government indicated that the level 5 facility located at the heart of Murang’a town is currently facing high demand especially for theatre services.

“The theatre at our level 5 facility is stretched thin, with patients from neighbouring counties also seeking medical care due to slowdown in service provision in neighbouring counties occasioned by demonstration of medical practitioners,” read part of the notice.

Kang’ata in the notice also stated that due to improved health care service delivery, many patients prefer the care provided at the Murang’a level 5 hospital. He also explained that the county government is expediting the completion of a new building at Murang’a Level 5 Hospital, which will include two new theatres.

This expansion, He stated is aimed to decongest the current theatre, providing timely and efficient care to patients The expansion is expected to make a significant difference, providing a more manageable workload for healthcare providers and improved service delivery for patients in Murang’a and the surrounding counties.
