Murang’a County Government has ranked the health department the best in the revenue collection in the past one year accounting for Sh360 million up from the previous of Sh240 million.
This has been explained following the office of the controller of budget listing the county among those that have improved in their own source revenue collection in the financial year 2023/2024, where it achieved a Sh1 billion mark.
County Government’s Finance and Planning CEC Prof Kiarie Mwaura said in the year under review the health sector registered improvement in its own source revenue based on the automation of the payment process.
” As we celebrate achieving the Sh1 billion mark, we salute the revenue collectors in all the nine sub counties for the work well done,” said Prof Kiarie. Addressing the press, the county government official said automation led to sealing of loopholes that were used to siphon the public resources.
” Governor Irungu Kang’ata is serious on automation as we have improved in collection of revenue in all the departments. The treasury department in the year 2023/2024 collected own source revenue of Sh1 billion, the health department posted the highest collection in the period.
Addressing the press, Kiarie attributed the success in meeting the target of raising revenue to Sh1 billion to the employees in the collection units embracing the automation process. ” In the year 2022/2023 we collected Sh 523 million and in the following year managed Sh658 million, and this year despite the target of Sh1.2 billion managed Sh1 billion,” said Kiarie.
He added that the Kang’ata led administration was able to procure drugs from Kemsa worth Sh40 million after every three months based on capacity to collect enough revenue.
” There are many programme supported by the government that include Kang’ata Care, Inua Mkulima, Smart Cities all geared towards improving the living standards of the residents,” said Kiarie.
