More than Sh1.3 billion will be shared to the coffee farmers who this week participated in the auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) where 30,272 bags of the commodity were traded.
In the sale that had the highest volumes presented following the implementation of Coffee Reforms, Alliance Berries Limited, Kirinyaga Slopes, and NKPCU continued to dominate the delivery that provided better prices for the cooperatives and estates.
In the sale, Ndaro ini factory in Mathira, Nyeri affiliated with Alliance Berries Limited registered an impressive sale of its 45 bags of AA grade fetching a total of Sh3,278,430.
A bag of 50 kilogrammes, was bought at Sh 72,854( $499).
Last week, farmers Gichatha ini coffee factory in Mathira, Nyeri also affiliated to the Alliance Berries Limited made Sh 3,654,020 after selling 42 bags of grade AA at the auction.In the grading category, the agents delivered 7,156 bags of AA, AB13,473 bags, and 4,370 bags of grade C.
In the market, 1,182 coffee cooperatives and estates participated.
In the trading platform, six buyers, Ibero Kenya, traded 5,521 bags, C- Dormans 5,521 bags, and Taylor Winch 4,428 bags, Kenyacoff 4,695 bags, Louis Dreyfus, 2,403 bags and Sasini 1,994 bags.
NCE acting CEO Ms Lisper Ndung’u says the activities at the trading platforms has improved targeting in the next sales, as the deliveries have attained more than 30,000 since August 15 last year.
In the previous sale, the marketing agent had delivered 22,260 bags that were traded at the NCE at the cost of Sh Sh969,876,058.
” We anticipate handling more coffee from our farmers as the market activities have improved with hopes of clocking above 40,000 bags per week,” said Ms Ndung’u.
In the trading report, Alliance delivered 4,187 bags that fetched Sh 193.4 million, NKPCU 4,198 bags, Sh169.7 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 8,397 bags for Sh 433 million..
The best coffee factories in the sale were Ndaro-ini, Kangocho, Mutheka, and Gathaithi from Nyeri County.
From Kirinyaga county, are Kii, Karimikui, Mugaya, Kiangoi affiliated to Rung’eto Farmers’ Cooperative Society and Kaguyu from Inoi Farmers’ Cooperative Society
According to Henry Kinyua, a coffee expert, the sale reflected 68% of the volumes traded, which included grades AA and AB.
Murang’a-based Gataigua Farmers Cooperative Society participated in the auction after withholding its coffee since August last year awaiting a better market price for its produce.
Other agents that delivered the commodity in the auction market are Kiambu, KCCE, Kinya, Kipkelion, and Murang’a County Coffee.
