Incubators,
Murang’a County has procured 12 incubators to enhance provision of pediatric health services in the region. The newly acquired incubators will be distributed to several public health facilities as the county aspires to reduce mortality rate.
Murang’a County Executive member for Health and Sanitation Dr. Fredrick Mbugua underscored the importance of the incubators saying they will give hope to mothers who deliver premature babies. He noted there were limited incubators and the new ones will ensure some health facilities which had none get some to support maternal health care.
“The new incubators are essential for providing the necessary conditions for infants born early to thrive,” added the CEC.
He explained that the equipment maintains an optimal temperature to prevent hypothermia and acts as humidifiers, helping to prevent skin problems. “This ensures that babies stay close, warm, and healthy,” said Dr. Mbugua when he received the incubators at Murang’a Level 5 hospital on Tuesday.
The CEC further observed that the incubators will assure mothers that their infants will have the best chance to grow strong and healthy. “This initiative is a significant part of our Maternal Support Programme, which aims to encourage expectant mothers to deliver in hospitals and reduce infant mortality rate,” he remarked.
Apart from the procurement of incubators, the county government is also giving some stipend to expectant mothers as a way of reimbursing their traveling costs to encourage them to attend antenatal clinics. The mothers receive the Sh1, 000 for every visit to the clinic once their pregnancy attains seven months.
