Kiambu Women Representative Anne Muratha has unveiled an ambitious four-month training program to empower area youths through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
The program, dubbed NGAAF INEET, seeks to equip young people with essential skills in entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and trading, with the ultimate goal of transitioning them into successful entrepreneurs and active contributors to the local economy.
Wamuratha highlighted the program’s transformative potential saying the it will transform the youths’ future. “It’s about more than just training; it’s a commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial skills and fostering economic growth,” she said.
The NGAAF INEET program specifically targets young people who are not in the education sector, employment, or training (NEET), providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to start and grow their own businesses. The initiative is part of a broader rollout that is being replicated in other counties such as Mombasa, Meru, Taita Taveta, West Pokot, Embu, and Nyandarua, with the blessings of all the 47 County Women Representatives.
The unique feature of the program is the provision of post-graduation grants for the most promising business ideas, designed to ensure that the entrepreneurial momentum built during the training continues to flourish.
The NGAAF INEET program is a collaborative effort between NGAAF and the Equity Group Foundation, under the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works Kenya initiative. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to creating opportunities for youth and fostering sustainable economic development across the country.
Wamuratha expressed optimism in the initiative and called on all young people in Kiambu to participate.
“I am truly excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and invite you all to join us in shaping a brighter future for Kenya’s youth and our nation as a whole,” she said.
The training is being done in all the Kiambu sub-Counties.
