Bodaboda
In an effort to boost their income and create their source of spare parts among other empowerment initiatives, a group of bodaboda riders from Nyandarua County is set to launch their strategic plan.
The road map to the plans is to create their source of economic empowerment and welfare as they worked towards revolutionizing the sector. According to Mr. Jack Nderitu who is also the Mt. Kenya regional boda boda riders Chairman, top on the group’s agenda is to acquire a piece of land where they planned to establish an industrial park.
It is here that they intend to have a motorcycle assembling unit, a spare part section that would make it easier for operators to access them.
Speaking during a consultative meeting held at Ol’Joro’Orok trading centre on Wednesday, the riders noted that bodaboda riders experienced a myriad of challenges ranging from access to credit, insurance and spare parts and hence the establishment of the industrial park as outlined in the proposed Strategic Plant would help address such challenges.
Ms. Grace Wamuyu, a local business woman and a supporter of the team lauded the plans saying there was exponential growth in the sector and it contributed heavily to the country’s economic development. “The realization of this plan will help address some of the critical challenges the riders face while at the same time, the initiative will create many jobs for young people in the country.
“It is a remarkable initiative bringing together the indomitable spirit of the Bodaboda riders and their dedication to improving their community’s well-being,” said Ms. Wamuyu.
