Nyanza Kenya teachers’ college sports competitions begin on a tight schedule

The Kenya Teachers Nyanza Regional athletic sports commenced Wednesday at the Kosele stadium in Homabay County.  The two-day event is expected to continue until Thursday May 30. The Competition officially opened by the Chairman of the Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) Nyanza region Timothy Atuti saw eight teacher training colleges in the region enter their students for competition in various field events.

The colleges in the competition include Rachuonyo Teachers training college; the host of the competitions, St Paul’s TTC, Kenyenya TTC, Migori TTC, Nyanchwa TTC, Kamagambo TTC, Asumbi TTC and Borabu Teachers training college.

Participants who qualify from the competitions will proceed to the Nationals which will take place from 1st June – 6th June in Machakos. “Those who will qualify will head directly to the Asumbi Training Camp on Thursday before proceeding to Machakos on Saturday, “Mr Atuti said

The first day saw a great number of races take place among them the 10000m male walking race which was the first one to kick off. Others were 400m hurdles women race which saw Vivian and Beatrice Chepkorir both from Asumbi claiming the first position from the two shifts which took place.

Meshach Kibet and Tito Kiptoo all from Asumbi TTC claimed the first positions in the men’s 400m hurdles race. The other competitions were High jump for both male and females, discus for men, javelin and a race for those that who are partially blind.

The competitions pulled a great crowd in the stadium which led to the deployment of police officers from the Rachuonyo police station to oversee the security of those in attendance.
