Accident
One person died on the spot while another three are fighting for their lives in hospital after the vehicles they were traveling in were involved in a road accident at Maltauro area along the Narok-Maai Mahiu highway.
While confirming the last night’s accident, Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare said the accident occurred after the driver of an Isuzu lorry driving from Narok town side failed to keep his lane and collided head on with an oncoming Toyota Hilux double cabin.
As a result of the impact, the driver of the Toyota Hilux died on the spot while four people among them, the driver of the ill-fated lorry sustained multiple injuries and were rushed by good Samaritans to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were also moved to the same facility’s morgue for preservation awaiting postmortem while the extensively damaged motor vehicles were towed to Ntulele Police station awaiting inspection. The accident occurred a few days after two brothers died at Pinyinyi area, along the same road, after the motorbike they were riding was involved in an accident.
Following the accidents, the County police boss called on motorists to exercise caution while driving along the busy and smooth highway to avert cases of accidents. He reminded the motorists to observe traffic regulations that include keeping to the correct lane, maintaining the required speed and ensuring that they drive roadworthy vehicles.
A recent statistic by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) showed that over 2, 000 deaths have occurred as a result of accidents since January this year.
