One dies, another in critical condition after mob justice

Lynching

Members of public today lynched two suspected motorcycle thieves at Major Estate near Kapkwen market, Chepalungu Sub County. The two were being trailed by a group of youth who included the owner of the stolen motorcycle which was recovered partially dismantled in a rented room.

Area Assistant Chief Enock Morusoi said the suspects were cornered inside the rented room at 5am when the members of the public accessed the room through the roof after the suspects refused to open the door.

Morusoi said the suspects were beaten mercilessly before they were set ablaze which resulted in one dying on the spot while another was saved by the police and rushed to Longisa County Referral hospital in critical condition.

The administrator urged members of the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands even as he noted it was equally a serious crime to be involved in motorcycle theft.

A Pastor at African Gospel Unity Church Jonathan Langat said the rot in the moral fabric was the cause of such vices noting that theft was a result of wanting to reap where one had not sown.

Langat urged the youth to involve themselves in legitimate businesses adding that there was need for the youths to embrace the gospel and change their wayward ways.
