One dies, Several Injured in Kajiado Train Crash

Accident

One passenger died Tuesday morning, while others were left nursing injuries after a passenger train lost control and fell off a bridge in Duka Moja area, Kajiado West sub county. The train owned by Tata Chemicals Limited Magadi, was headed to Kajiado town from Magadi and was ferrying more than 100 passengers and goods.

According to eyewitnesses, the train, which was full, lost control when it approached the bridge at around 8 am, veered off the tracks and overturned.

Some 66 passengers who suffered minor injuries were rushed to Kajiado County Referral Hospital, where they were treated and discharged, while 10 others who were in critical condition were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi for specialized treatment.

Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho condoled with the family of the deceased and wished the injured quick recovery.  The body of the deceased was moved to the Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
