Over 20,000 tree seedlings planted in Maasai Mau Forest in Narok South sub county to honour those killed by floods.
Representing Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary, Rebecca Miano, Karanja Njora, Secretary Administration in the state department for industry said the day was set aside to honour those who have been killed and affected by floods in the country.
Speaking after the tree planting exercise, Njora Said that the ministry has a target to plant over 5million trees.
“Every year the ministry has a target of planting 1 Million tree seedlings” added Njora The County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has said that the activity took place in Maasai Mau Forest at block 23 spearheaded by the ministry of trade with an aim to restore the degraded forest.
The CC added that they have been able to mobilize through the stakeholders over 50,000 tree seedlings to be planted within block 23, of which 23,000 trees have been planted during this holiday.
He added that the exercise will continue even after the holiday that was set aside to honor those who died through floods.
On his part, Ngala Oloitiptip, the Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority managing director said they donated 4,000 tree seedlings to be planted in honor of citizens who were killed by floods.
The County government of Narok, Maasai Mara University, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Forest Service, National Construction Authority, National Environment Management Authority among other stakeholders participated in tree planting exercise.
