National and county governments have been challenged to increase allocation for the persons with special needs to enable them to be self-reliant. Murang’a leaders led by Senator Joe Nyutu said the persons with special needs have the ability to create wealth and bring up their children by depending on friends and relatives.
Speaking when he distributed wheel chairs to persons living with disabilities in Maragua town, Nyutu said small support will make the persons more active and create wealth.
In this programme, through Partners of Care, who donated the wheel chairs, The Joe Nyutu Foundation will give the beneficiaries start-up capital.
In the function at Maragua town attended by MPs Mary Wamaua and Betty Njeri Maina( Murang’a), Nyutu said the two levels of government should ensure the kitty towards the persons with special needs was increased to match up with their responsibilities.
” Through friends have managed to deliver wheel chairs to persons registered by the organisation representing persons with special needs,” said the senator.
Maragua MP said Murang’a County assembly should consider increasing allocation meant to support the venerable persons. “When I was an MCA we formulated a kitty to help the persons with disabilities, which should be increased to help more people,” said Wamaua.
Kahumbu MCA Chefman Isaac Njoroge said there was need for the establishment of therapy and rehabilitation centres in the health facilities. Chefman said many of the families are forced to spend alot of money taking their kins for therapy in the neighboring counties.
” Moving forward we need to have therapy centres in the health facilities, to facilitate reduction of cost,” said Chefman. He added that there was a need for a census at the counties to establish the needs of the persons seeking special needs.
