Phone racket thief nabbed

Police in Kisumu have arrested a suspect believed to be the mastermind behind a phone theft racket in Kisumu Central Business district. The suspect popularly known as Mrefu was nabbed at the Kisumu main bus park where he runs a phones accessories shop while in possession of more than 40 stolen phones.

Kisumu Central Police Commander Jackson Mango disclosed that police also recovered a laptop in the swoop and the suspect was in police custody and helping police with further investigations. The laptop was suspected to have been used to unlock the stolen phones.

The arrest came in the wake of hue and cry by residents of increased phone theft at the Kisumu bus terminus with residents now praising the law enforcement officers over the arrest. They called for a continued crackdown to cover the entire Kisumu County.

“People have been mysteriously losing their phones within the trading centres in Kisumu County and the neighbourhoods but today, members of the public have assisted us with information that has enabled us to get hold of a notorious suspect and as you can see, we have recovered hundreds of stolen phones and phone accessories and nabbed the suspect known as Mrefu,” disclosed Mango
