Police intercept bhang from Ethiopia at Makutano

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations intercepted more than 70 bales of bhang  in Kirinyaga  county.

The drug was intercepted by the anti-narcotic and operations support units at Makutano town along Mwea – Embu highway in Kirinyaga and suspected to had been on transit to Nairobi

The DCI arrested two suspects  with the consignment estimated with a street value of Sh 11 million.

Following a tip off, the detectives  conducted surveillance along the highway before they intercepted the two vehicles transporting the bhang.

The team said the known suspects in the illicit trade  have been on the police radar  and will be transported to Nairobi for further interrogation on the source and the market of the bhang.

The drug detective said the cargo was from Moyale to Nairobi before being intercepted at Makutano.

“Each bale was packed with 5 kilograms of bhang, and we will intensify our vigilance until we completely dismantle the whole drug network, ” said the senior officer who led the operation.
