Police officers face robbery with violence charges

Violence

Three police officers and a civilian were charged before a Kericho court for robbery with violence offences. The accused persons Kipyegon Ngetich, Chamdany Kipkirui, Robert Ngetich and Kipngetich Rono all denied the charges when they appeared before Kericho Senior Principal Magistrate Johnson Monguti.

The charge sheet read that on 28 December 2023 at Upper Hill estate in Bureti sub-county within Kericho County jointly with five in court while armed with dangerous weapons namely three pistols robbed Wesley Kipngeno Tanui of his motor vehicle registration number KDE 005K.

The car was valued at Shs 1,520,000 and he had cash 150,000 all totaling Shs 1, 670,000 and immediately before or immediately after the time of robbery used actual violence against the said Tanui.

The accused persons were each released on a bond of Shs 2 million which they failed to raise and were remanded in custody at Litein police station. Thus, the case was fixed for a mention on 10 April 2024.
