Police trail wounded cattle rustler in private clinic

A three-day manhunt for a suspected cattle rustler bore fruits last Friday evening after police found the wounded raider recuperating at a clinic in  Karare trading centre in Marsabit Central sub-county.

Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Luka Tumbo said the proprietor of the private clinic found administering treatment on the suspect was also arrested. Mr Tumbo told KNA that the police received information that the suspect had been admitted at the said clinic with multiple gunshot wounds on the upper right hand.

The CCIO added that a contingent of security personnel from the directorate of criminal investigations (DCI), quick response unit (QRU) and Kenya police service (KPS) was dispatched to the private clinic where they carried out a successful raid.

“The suspect in our custody is believed to have been among armed cattle rustlers who staged an unsuccessful attack in Jaldesa area on 18th of this month,” he said adding that the rustlers engaged security officers in a fire exchange and believed to have escaped with injuries.

The suspect was escorted to Marsabit county referral hospital where he is admitted in a critical condition but under but under police watch.

The clinician who was found treating and harbouring a patient suspected to have been involved in crime is being held at the Marsabit police station where he is helping with investigations.
