Preparations for this year’s Embu Rugby Sevens Tournament to be held from July 12 to 14 at Moi Stadium are in top gear. The organizers, Embu Rugby Football Club, is moving with speed to ensure the ground and all the necessary installations are in place for the tournament.

The club chairperson, Bosire Abija said the competition will kick off with Under-18 contest commonly known as age grade group on Friday that will be more of a family fun day with no gate charges for spectators. He said so far 16 clubs had confirmed participation including Impala, Strathmore, Zetech and Nakuru RFC, and others from the neighborhood including Meru, Chuka and Kirinyaga.

He said registration was still open to other teams across the country so long as they are duly registered and affiliated with Kenya Rugby Union. “Our tournament is sanctioned by KRU and so for you to participate you must have registered and meet the standards set by the union,” he said.

He added that there will be prizes to be awarded to winners. He exuded confidence that the home team will emerge overall winner having posted good results in Meru Sevens two weeks ago where they took second position.

Additionally, Bosire said security will be beefed up to ensure the tournament will run smoothly.
