President William Ruto has announced the appointment of 16 women as ambassadors to various countries across the world
Of the 16 appointments, 10 will serve as ambassadors while the remaining six will be deputy ambassadors.
Speaking on Friday at Moi stadium Embu the Head of State said the appointments are in honour of the contribution of women in the leadership of the country.
According to Ruto, the appointment of women to take on the prestigious diplomatic roles was part of the celebrations and a gift to women as they marked International Women’s Day.
He, however, did not disclose which countries they had been appointed to.
He also  revealed the government would amend the constitution to allow for the inclusion of women in governance and enhance gender parity.
He further noted that he had written a notice to the national assembly to consider amending the law to incorporate more positions for women leadership in the country.
“I want to announce to all women that later today, I will receive a detailed report from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) and one of the key issues on the report is the two-third gender rule,” Ruto stated.
“We have decided as a party and as a government that the national assembly through the parliamentary group and all the structures that we have will make sure we pass the matter,” the head of state added.
The  President said that they have also resolved to be highly intentional in ensuring that constitutional gender inclusion is achieved.
“We’ve also resolved to be highly intentional as I was requested here by the Embu Woman Representative in actualising the Constitutional Gender inclusion principle or the one-third rule through various strategies including at the party and policy level for elective representative positions in Kenya,” Ruto said
