Propak East Africa 2024 Expo Kicks Off

Angela Kinyua, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group EA (in Red Dress) looks on during the opening of the Propak East Africa 2024 exhibition and conference at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.

Propak East Africa 2024, a leading B2B exhibition for packaging, printing, plastics, and food & beverage processing sectors, is underway in East Africa, featuring over 150 exhibitors from 35 countries.

Organized by Montgomery Group EA, this year’s edition promises to be the largest yet, with a focus on industry innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. Angela Kinyua, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group EA, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event by welcoming attendees to the Propak East Africa 2024.

She said that this year’s edition offers a unique opportunity for industry stakeholders to engage with cutting-edge products and services, participate in thought-provoking sessions, and network with key buyers from Kenya, East Africa, and around the globe.

Propak East Africa is addressing industry challenges and opportunities, focusing on sustainable packaging solutions amid Africa’s economic boom and increasing packaging consumption. Kinyua reports daily plastic pollution in oceans, rivers, and lakes, with the number predicted to triple by 2060 without intervention.

Further, she cited a 2020 study published in Science Advances which estimates that by 2040, Africa will mismanage 250 million tons of plastic waste if the current trend continues. “Propak East Africa 2024 emphasizes sustainability through circularity, recyclability design, and extended producer responsibility, demonstrating the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship,” affirmed Kinyua.

Propak East Africa showcases the latest innovations across the value chain, including packaging materials, machinery, printing technologies, and food processing equipment, with live demonstrations for attendees. The exhibition includes a conference on sustainability, the ‘Eastern Africa Packaging Summit’, and the ‘AfriStar Awards’, celebrating innovative African packaging solutions.

Propak East Africa, supported by Kenya’s trade and industry organizations, is poised to become a market leader in Africa due to its stable economy and continued growth.
