Property damaged as youth clash in Homa Bay town

 Property of unknown value were damaged in Homa Bay Town when two groups of youth clashed today afternoon. The two groups which engaged each other for more than an hour fought at Garage Road where they hurled stones at each other.

The confrontation led to destruction of buildings, motorcycles and vehicles. Homa Bay County Police Commander Hassan Barua said his officers intervened swiftly and quelled the violence.

Members of the public scampered for safety, leaving the area a no go zone as the two groups which comprised Bodaboda riders against mechanics fought. The violence began shortly after Governor Gladys Wanga concluded her meeting with mechanics at Garage Road.

Wanga was meeting the mechanics to discuss improvement of sanitation in the garage and providing mechanics more space for operation. Homa Bay Bunge La Wenye Nchi Speaker Walter Opiyo condemned the violence. “I want Homa Bay residents to embrace peace and avoid violent confrontation. We want peace all the times, demonstrations must also be conducted peacefully,” Opiyo said.
