Recovery
Some 106 recovering Alcoholics and drug addicts from Bomet County are set to undergo vocational training at Nyandarua Training Centre in Olkalau, Nyandarua County. Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok said the cohorts have been receiving treatment and rehabilitation at Koiwa Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, in Konoin Sub County, for the last three months.
Barchok said the program was aimed at ensuring that individuals who were addicted to alcohol and drugs received professional treatment from counselors and psychiatrists in order to have a better chance of full recovery. He said the program was sponsored by the County Government of Bomet in conjunction with the office of the spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
“After recovery, our mission is to equip them with skills so that they will eventually become productive members of the society,” he said. Among the courses the recoveries would undertake in the training include masonry, shoe making, plumbing, fashion design and welding among their technical skill-based courses.
The cohorts join others from Embu, Meru and Kiambu counties.
The Governor said they negotiating with employees such as the Teachers Service Commission and the National Police Service to have those who were interdicted due to alcoholism and drug addiction reinstated. He said the Koiwa treatment and rehabilitation center would soon be receiving it’s second team of patients who were in need of treatment and rehabilitation.
