Relief as the government moves to abolish vetting in ID application

President William Ruto has ordered for a stop of subjecting Kenyans from the vetting at the application of the identity cards. Ruto said there are plans to abolish the national identification card vetting process which has earned condemnation by the marginalized communities.

He spoke at the State House, when he hosted Muslim leaders for Iftar Dinner. “The government will soon issue a policy to ease the ID application process from May 2024”.

Vetting of the ID applicants has been a thorn in the flesh among the indigenous communities in Kenya. Suleiman Bakari said the announcement by the President is a relief to many of the applicants who felt they had been discriminated against in pursuit for the crucial document.

” We have suffered for a long time but now there is a rare hope that application for IDs will be made easy,” said Bakari.
