Poor road infrastructure in rural areas, particularly in the interior parts of Kirinyaga county, has led to farmers losing harvests and residents criticizing elected leaders for laxity in improving their lot.

Lack of good roads has also caused many areas to have a low development rate, but residents in Ndia constituency have something to celebrte since the road, which has been distressing for many years, has been tarmacked, thus helping them to have permanent solutions.

The Sagana-Kathaka-Thiguku/Mururi-Mahingaini-Nyamindi-Kiumbuiini/Kirwara-Kianyaga-Kagio-Kagumo/Karnai-Kangaita. The road, which was launched by President William Ruto on November 18, 2023, has started in high gear. The road, once completed, will touch the four constituencies in Kirinyaga.

Reuben Maina, a resident of Gacharu, Ndia constituency, has said they have been facing challenges when it comes to taking their products into the market, adding that the road has opened and the area has many schools, one of them being Ndia Technical and Vocational College, which has a large population, and that the area is expecting more visitors.

Regina Njeri Muriuki, a Community Health Promoter from Mainga Rúi village, has reported that the construction of a new road has improved the health sector, allowing patients to access hospitals more easily, and increasing the value of their land.

Washington Mugendi, a casual worker, has said since the road started he has been busy throughout thus making him a busy man and having no time to engage in illegal activities and he has been feeding his family from the project. He has called on the government to open more projects in the area to help youth.
