Residents express views on the finance bill 2024/2025.

A section of residents of Homa Bay county have expressed displeasure over the proposals in the financial bill 2024-2025. The residents said the proposed increment of taxes on basic commodities such as milk and bread would hurt the majority of Kenyans.

Grace Akinyi who is a vegetable seller at Soko Mjinga in Homa Bay town said that they were promised that the Kenya Kwanza government will uplift the hustlers, but they were suffering because of high taxes.

She said they were overburdened by the high cost of basic commodities, transport and health care. On his part Victor Boi who is a matatu driver said that fuel prices were the number of passengers has reduced due to their eroded purchasing power.

He said if the vehicle circulation tax of 2.5 percent of the value of the vehicle is introduced, it will compound an already bad situation. Polycarp Otieno a resident of Homa Bay said the new Social Health Insurance Fund was going to be too expensive for the majority of Kenyans.

Victor Omanya a shoe seller also echoed the sentiments saying business was so bad that the majority of the small and medium enterprises operators were unable to pay school fees and put food on the table.
