Nyeri residents who have made applications for government documents from the Nyeri Huduma Centre have been urged to collect their processed documents to avoid missing out on crucial government services.

According to the Nyeri Huduma Centre Manager, Maurice Barasa, as of October 1, the centre had accumulated a total of 5,291 uncollected documents. Out of these, duplicate National Identity(ID) cards form the bulk of the documents where a total of 4,096 IDs are lying uncollected at the National Registration Bureau desk while uncollected Drivers’ Licenses stand at 1,193.

“Most of the uncollected IDs are duplicates and the applicants are people from Nyeri and the neighbouring counties. It is our wish that these people come for these ID’s,” Barasa said. To reduce the backlog, Barasa said the centre had partnered with the National Government Administration Officers to help track and deliver some of the IDs. Further, the centre manager said that they are utilizing Short Message Service to reach out to the applicants to collect their documents.

“We have a system where whenever an ID is processed a text message is sent to the applicant. It is prudent that when they receive the message, they come and collect them,” said Barasa. Barasa spoke to KNA at the Nyeri Huduma Centre during the second day of the Customer Service Week. The week was created in the 1980s by the International Customer Service Association and it is celebrated each year during the first week of October.

Initially organisations used the week to recognize and appreciate the contribution of customer service representatives. However, over time the significance of the week has changed with organisations now using the week to offer exceptional services to their customers.

During the second day of the weeklong celebrations in Nyeri, lucky clients had their service charge paid for by the centre. Barasa said it was one of the ways of appreciating the customers who visit the centre in search of government services. The centre manager said that to commemorate the week, the Nyeri Huduma centre had also lined up tree planting, street clean-up and football tournament which are geared towards fostering a good relationship with their clients in line with this year’s theme ‘Above and Beyond’.

“On Monday we had an awareness campaign where we met with residents and we were able to explain to them what we do in Huduma. Our activities are geared towards creating that awareness and establishing a rapport with the people so that we can be able to offer them more services,” he said.
