Doctors strike
The government has directed the law enforcer to protect the health workers who have distanced themselves from participating in the strike.
Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki directs the law enforcement agencies to ensure strict maintenance of law and order to protect the general public and the health workers who have chosen to obey the court order by providing services.
The directive to the police follows as services in public hospitals have stalled as the health workers are marching in the streets agitating for their demand as the patients suffer at home and a few make it to the private facilities.
In a statement, the Cabinet Secretary noted that defiant health workers continue to defy the court order, intimidate and threaten violence against health workers who have not joined the strike.
“The participants in the unlawful industrial action have repeatedly threatened to disrupt service delivery in health institutions, to interfere with the daily activities of the non-participating health workers and to undermine public order generally,” read part of the statement.
Kithure directs that gatherings, protests or other actions outside the law and in breach of court directives will not be allowed.
