Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is spearheading Mountain region unity despite the presence of traitors and betrayers undermining him. Addressing the mourners during the burial of his former teacher Julius Kano Ndumbi, the Deputy President said there was need to strengthen the regional unity similar to other regions.
He said he was a senior most leader in the mountain, with a mission to unite the leaders.
He recounted how in 1992, the late Mwai Kibaki lost the presidential election after Nyeri people supported their own, as Murang’a, Nairobi and Kiambu supported the late Kenneth Matiba. In the 1997 election, some leaders in the mountain abandoned Kibaki and moved to support Charity Ngilu in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who was campaigning for Presidency.
He regretted that there are people working to incite the region’s people to fight as they pursue their personal interests. “After the region understood the power of unity in the 2002 election, Kibaki in Democratic Party floored his closer challenger former President Uhuru Kenyatta who was fronted by the late Daniel Arap Moi,” said Gachagua.
He said he was a deputy to President William Ruto who had assigned him assignments to fight the illicit brews and streamline the agricultural sector.” As we are on a service delivery mission, there are individuals working for positions in 2027 and 2032 but their action will not affect us as we are on a mission,” said Gachagua.
During the service, Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango said the majority of the leaders in the region are supporting the deputy president owing to his charismatic and effective service delivery.
” There are crafty individuals who have penetrated working towards sabotaging the relationship between President Ruto and his deputy,” said Murango.
