Ruto directs council to look into minimum wage

President William Ruto has reiterated that his administration will comply with labour laws. The head of state in his speech during the International Laboura Day, said every Kenyan worker has the right to fair pay and a safe workplace.

Ruto instructed Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore to convene a forum to deliberate on the potential increase of minimum wage to the workers.

The minimum wage was last increased in 2022. The head of state said he wanted the minimum wage hike by six percent. As he instructed his Labour CS to convene a meeting with the relevant agencies and the minimum wage increased by six percent.

“The councils  have bring on board seafarers and general and agricultural wages. They will negotiate minimum wages in different sectors enhancing conciliation, mediation, and industrial peace,” directed the President.
