President William Ruto has appointed Senior Counsel Ms. Dorcas Agik Oduor as the nominee for the position of Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya and Ms. Beatrice Askul Moe as Cabinet Secretary nominee for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development docket.

Ms. Oduor who has vast legal experience spanning over 30 years of practice within the public sector as a jurist is recognized for her immense contribution to the development of the country’s law through litigation, draughtsman, and legal advisories.

She takes over the office from former Attorney General Justin Muturi who is the new CS nominee for the position of Public Service and Human Capital Development. The Senior Counsel also described as a public officer who has demonstrated impeachable integrity, impressive professional competence and steadfast commitment to the rule of law will become the country’s first female Attorney General should she be approved by Parliament.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, said the Senior Counsel is currently serving as Secretary of Public Prosecutions within the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The Attorney General nominee was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1992, having attained her Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1990 and Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 1991.

“The President has transmitted the nominations for appointment to the National Assembly for consideration and approval in fulfillment of the legal requirements set out under our nation’s supreme law,” said Koskei.

Ms. Moe, a Social Scientist and Consultant, has specialized skills in development and management of community affairs towards behavioural and social change in communities, previously served as the County Executive Committee Member in Charge of Water, Irrigation, Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Turkana County.

She has also served as a Director of the Rift Valley Water Services Board, Chairperson Technical Committee of the Rift Valley Water Services Board, Chairperson Audit  Committee  to the Rift Valley Water Services Board, Project Officer AMREF Kenya Turkana Project and Relief Officer for the Oxfam Turkana Relief Program.

Ms. Moe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences (Social Work) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Governance and Ethics.
