Football Kenya Federation Premier League side, Shabana FC has received a major boost after the Kisii-based side signed a Sh75 million sponsorship with Kenya’s leading gaming firm, SportPesa.
The sponsorship will cover a period of three years with the club receiving Sh25 million annually. Shabana FC, who narrowly avoided relegation last season after finishing 14th in the league now faces an uphill battle to climb up the league table in the coming season that begins on August 24, 2024.
“This partnership is about commitment and impact and it promises a good fan experience which will definitely attract much more talent,” said SportPesa Partnerships Manager Willis Ojwang. SportPesa’s Head of Operations, Benard Chauro also reiterated the company’s purpose in the growth and development of sports in the country.
“Today marks another big milestone for us in the sponsorships and partnerships realm. We have been in this game for a while and going forward, the players should know that they have a reliable partner who can guarantee their success,” said Chauro.
Innocent Muganda who spoke on behalf of the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) Chair, Jane Makau, lauded SportPesa for impacting the community positively. “Going forward, this should open a fruitful engagement to improve the outcomes. Youth are being given a chance to put themselves forward and make good from the efforts-at-hand,” he added.
Kisii Governor and Shabana FC Patron Simba Arati confirmed the team’s readiness to host its matches at Gusii Stadium which had been closed for renovations during the last season. “Shabana used to host its matches at the Raila Odinga Stadium in the neighbouring Homa Bay County with Gusii Stadium facing challenges but I am happy to inform you that the pitch is ready for use,” said Governor Arati.
The partnership’s launch was also graced by the club’s fan associations from different regions in the country who were full of gratitude for the support. Shabana FC will begin their season away at Thika Stadium where they’ll face Bidco United.
