Shock as senior police officer commits suicide at work station

Anxiety has gripped Dabel police station and the surroundings in Moyale Sub-county of Marsabit County after a senior police officer took his own life using an official gun.

Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo confirmed to KNA that the police service has lost an officer of the rank of an Inspector adding that investigations into the incident have started.

Kimaiyo said the officer who was serving as the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (D/OCS) at Dabel committed suicide by shooting himself on the chin and the bullet exited through the forehead.

“We do not know yet what drove the officer into taking his own life but investigations are in progress,” he said adding that the deceased used a Ceska pistol that had been issued to him with 14 rounds of ammunition to terminate his own life.

The County Police Commander said that the scene was processed but no suicide note was found. The incident was discovered by two police constables after they heard a gunshot sound from behind the station’s report office at around 11pm upon when they stumbled on a lifeless body of their boss.

The body of the deceased was removed to Moyale sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
