Six passengers perished on the spot 

Nine passengers died after a city bound bus they were travelling in lost control and plunged into the Mbagathi river. Eighteen others sustained serious injuries following the fatal accident that occurred in the Karen area in Nairobi County. Three passengers died as they are undergoing treatment.

The Nairobi police say the bus was along Gataka shopping centre road heading to Karen Hardy before it plunged into the river. Fourteen passengers are receiving treatment at Karen and Ngong, and St Mary’s Hospitals, within the Nairobi area.

Eyewitnesses recount that the driver of the ill-fated bus lost control.

“It is unfortunate that the accident happened but good samaritans rushed to the scene and saved lives,” said an eyewitness.
