Residents of Sogoo area in the newly created Narok Amalo Sub County are set to benefit from electricity connectivity via the last mile connectivity project that is ongoing.
Narok South Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Kitilai Ole Ntutu thanked the government for releasing the funds that will see over 200 homesteads connected free of charge with electricity.
“The only thing we require from the residents is to do wiring in their houses as the government will bring electricity to their doorstep. We are doing this to ensure that all Kenyans, even those living in the remote areas, enjoy government services,” he said during a public baraza in the area.
The MP revealed that the electrical engineers will maximise every transformer in a bid to ensure as many homesteads as possible were connected. Apart from electricity, Ntutu reported that the government was in the process of implementing a water project in the area that will see all residents enjoy clean water at the comfort of their homestead.
“I can assure you that very soon, the Sogoo water project will be completed to serve all homesteads in this area,” he reiterated. Sogoo residents lauded the initiative saying the area that borders the Maasai Mau forest has lagged behind in development for a long time, despite the area being very productive in agricultural produce.
Mercy Chepkemoi said electricity is a basic need in this digital era, where almost everything is being done electronically. “Our people will have a chance to market their product on the digital platform because they will install the internet and their phones will be charged. I believe electricity will boost the economy of the Sogoo people,” she underscored.
The newly installed Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Inmah Gary reiterated the government’s agenda to ensure every Kenyan was connected with electricity so as to boost their economic standards.
He reiterated the creation of Narok Amalo Sub County was to enable the government to bring better services close to the people. The new Narok Amalo Sub County is made up of parts of Narok South and West sub counties and is mostly inhabited by the Kipsigis community. The sub county borders the Maasai Mau Forest and Bomet East Sub County.
