Students in Kasekeu Zone benefit from 18,216 dignity packs

At least 5,576 learners from 21 Primary Schools in Kasekeu Zone in Mukaa Subcounty, Makueni County have benefited from 18,216 dignity packs.

The County Woman Representative Rose Museo has said primary schools that benefited included Sultan Hamud Kasanga Comprehensive that got 350 dignity packs, Kyunguni (250), Muani (180), Landu (170), Kandolo (280), Kalimbini (120) and Kiamba (160) and Kawese (170).

“Each girl will receive 8 dignity packs to help retain the learners in school besides observing menstrual hygiene in schools,” said Museo, while speaking at Sultan Hamud Kasanga Comprehensive School, where she launched the distribution of the free sanitary towels.

“The dignity packs given to the girls will also ensure the learners who receive 12 menstrual seasons in a year, do not suffer any shame,” she observed.  The dignity packs are distributed through the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action and so far Makueni County has received 426, 168 pieces.

On water, Museo disclosed that she will provide tanks to schools to ensure they have water to help the girls in observing hygiene during their menstrual period, hence avoid uninterrupted learning in the area. Speaking at the same event, Mukaa Subcounty Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Njeru Mutua called upon the area residents to report individuals involved in brewing illicit brews, besides those using drug substance abuse in the area.

Consequently, Mutua warned that those individuals involved in this vice will be arrested and prosecuted. “Schools are drug free areas, no one is supposed to sell alcohol near learning institutions. I urge members of the public to report individuals involved in illicit brewing and drug and substance abuse,” said Mutua.

Others present at the function included County Director of Gender Douglas Mukanda, KNUT County Secretary Benson Ndambuki and some members of the public.
