Residents of Suna East Constituency have protested against the poor state of the roads in their area. The angry residents led by Denis Ouma said that the Migori-Ngege-Uyoma road and Mabera- Got Jope road have been neglected for a long time posing dangers to road users.
Residents, who are dissatisfied with the state of the infrastructure, called upon their Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed to construct better roads to improve their mobility and business operations. The demonstrators, who gathered on one of the roads in the Osingo area, expressed their worries, claiming that the state of the roads hinders their capacity to carry out business operations effectively.
“We are having trouble making ends meet since we can hardly drive on these roads. We need proper roads to continue our work without constant automobile breakdowns and delays,” said Ouma. They also emphasized that the bad state of the roads hampers not just their businesses, but also their families and the larger community.
Caroline Awuor, a resident of Ngege said that the road has made it difficult for women to transport their produce to markets and access hospital facilities. She called upon the area MP to move with speed and construct the road to improve the socioeconomic status of the area.

“Every day, our children arrive in school late due to inaccessible roads. Even old people have trouble getting around,” Awuor said. The protestors were especially vocal in their criticism of the area MP, Junet Mohammed, accusing him of ignoring urgent infrastructural needs while offering temporary relief in the form of food donations.
“We require roads, not rice and beans. Our MP constantly brings us relief food and Sh200, but that does not address the bigger issue. We require a long-term fix,” Eric Omondi, one of the protesters, affirmed. Omondi lamented that it was important for their MP to pay attention and take immediate action to ensure their lives are not adversely impacted by the poor road network.
The residents took their protests to the Suna East Constituency Office, promising to keep up their demonstrations until the roads were improved. They also urged Mohammed to ensure all promised projects are fulfilled or risk being recalled as the area MP.
