Supastop
Makueni County Deputy Governor (DG) Lucy Mulilii has lauded Superior Homes Kenya for initiating a stopover centre for long distance truck drivers at Sultan Hamud to take breaks during their journey.
She said the stopover christened “Supastop” could positively contribute to the reduction of road accidents along the Northern Corridor (Mombasa-Nairobi-Malaba highway) as the tired drivers had an opportunity to rest and replenish before proceeding.
The one stop for truck drivers offered them opportunity to rest, eat and pray is one of its kind and unique as drivers will replenish and avoid driving while they are dizzy and tired “she said. “I call upon truck drivers and people in the business to take advantage of this space, come stop here eat, rest and pray before they continue with their journeys,” said Mulili during the official opening of Supastop at Sultan Hamud town in Mukaa Sub county.
“We have witnessed many accidents along this highway with fatalities and injuries but we are optimistic accident will be reduced greatly if truck drivers use the one Supastop to rest,” she added. She disclosed that the county government of Makueni has equipped the trauma centres at Sultan Hamud and Makindu Hospitals with enough infrastructure to cater for patients from accident prone Mombasa-Nairobi Highway
Further the DG said the significance of Mombasa-Nairobi Highway has contributed to the growth of markets and towns which have become the economic hubs along the corridor traversing several countries. “Truck drivers are the people who keep factories moving and working in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu and Uganda and Rwanda. We have seen growth in all countries that has attracted investments,” she posed.
