Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has confirmed that leaders and residents from the region would rally behind President Ruto to deliver the Kenya Kwanza agenda and would not be deceived to unite against the President and his government.
Noting that Kenyans had expectations from the government to deliver on its promises, the Governor asked members of the public to give the government time to deliver on the promises made during the 2022 general elections.
“All that was promised in 2022 will be delivered. The government will treat the promises as debts which the Kenya Kwanza government is assuring residents that the debts will be paid. Elected leaders have some time left to honor their pledges or be ready to face the axe come 2027,” he said.
The Governor’s pledge to support the government comes days ahead of President William Ruto’s scheduled visit to the county on Thursday July 25, where he is expected to launch the Kibugua Health Center/Natasha Memorial Outpatient Block, Marimanti Kenya Medical Training College, Maara Police Headquarters and Maara Huduma Centre & NGCDF offices.
President Ruto is also set to commission the Kibung’a Kakimiki Water Project in Marimanti Ward, Huduma Centre and the County Commissioners office at Kathwana. He will also hand over the Kirumi Kiamunjari Irrigation Project to the new contractor.
Governor Njuki has asked for peace and calm during the visit, amid previous attempts by a section of Mt Kenya region leaders to align themselves for the 2027 general elections along tribal lines. The Governor has on several occasions asked politicians with personal issues with the current government to settle them personally, and resist from involving the region.
“We have power through the Presidency. How then will we be deceived to go back to fighting the same government we fought so hard to get and risk losing all the projects and promises made to the people? We are in UDA to stay,” he said.
The Governor spoke when he officially opened the Nthigiriri Dispensary in Magumoni Ward today, bringing a total of health facilities in the county to 110 from 60 in 2017 when he was elected for his first term as Governor. He also announced plans to upgrade Kibugua, Mpukoni, Muthambi, Gatunga and Kajuki hospitals to Level 4 to reduce patient influx at Chuka Hospital which was upgraded to Level 5.
