The U.S. ambassador visits Eldoret in efforts to foster a strong productive partnership

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has hosted the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman in efforts to reinforce the county’s aspirations for economic growth through global partnership. Speaking at the county headquarters, the U.S. Ambassador applauded the county’s accomplishments and for becoming the 5th city in Kenya.

“Uasin Gishu is exhibiting exceptional vision and growth in agriculture, green energy and manufacturing,” she said. “On agriculture we discussed specific crops with high economic potential like Avocados, potatoes and pyrethrum which is the number one ingredient in organic pesticides which is in demand globally,” she said.

She added: “We remain excited about manufacturing; Kenya is invested in manufacturing as the textile industry has a very big growth area as it has employed over 2,000 people in Uasin Gishu,”. The ambassador Whitman added that the manufacturing sector which could be closer to a million dollars’ investment and the cotton fabric being the next thing that is needed Kenya is positioned to help the textile industry grow and employ more people.

At the same time, she noted that the U.S. Embassy will follow up on the infrastructure and housing development which will enhance economic growth. “Clean cooking and green energy are another big opportunity for Uasin Gishu as it is an area of interest in conserving the environment,” she said.

The Governor noted that the country has fostered a very strong productive partnership with the United States reinforcing the shared aspirations in the U.S.-Kenya trade relations. He noted that the county continues to maintain a strong and productive partnership with the United States, promoting mutual growth and development.

“Our city is a premier destination for business, investment, tourism and an established power house in sports, “he said. “As the latest city to join the ranks we are actively promoting our region as a champion in business with agriculture remaining the foundation of our county’s economy, “noted the Governor.

“Our farmers are working diligently to diversify their produce and with your support as the ambassador we look forward to expanding our access to the US market, “he stated. Bii noted that Uasin Gishu is in a strategic location, favorable climate and investment friendly environment therefore it is an ideal location for both new and expanding ventures.

“We discussed agriculture for food security, technology transfer, training, research and development so that we partner with the U.S. universities and we will be able to move forward and drive economic growth, “said Bii. Bii extended an invitation to U.S. investors, highlighting the County’s supportive business climate and commitment to sustainable development.
