Three people have been killed in a road accident near Nyalkinyi area on the Homa Bay -Kisumu road.  Homa Bay County Police Commander Hassan Barua said that the three included a male student of a local secondary school and two other men. The student was on his way home for August holiday.

The three died when a motorbike on which they were riding collided with a speeding vehicle. However, the occupants of the vehicle escaped with serious injuries.

Barua said that the student had boarded the motorbike heading towards Kendu Bay Town while the vehicle the motorbike collided with was moving towards Homa Bay Town. The rider died on the spot, another one died on arrival at Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital and the last one died while receiving medication in the same hospital.

Barua told road users in the county to observe traffic rules to reduce loss of lives in road accidents. “Let residents observe traffic rules whenever they are using roads. People who ride motorbikes should ensure they carry only one passenger. Drivers should drive at the recommended speed too,” Barua said.

The bodies were moved to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
