Traffic was disrupted for hours on Monday at Ololulunga junction, along the Narok – Bomet Highway after an irate mob blocked the road to protest an incident where a 55-year-old watchman was killed and another man seriously injured.
The youth burned tyres in the middle of the road to express their disappointment over insecurity and blamed the police for not arresting the culprits. The police were forced to lob tear gas to disperse the protesters, and then unblock the road to allow the smooth traffic flow.
Narok inter-faith Chairman Bishop Peter Nakola confirmed that the deceased was one of the worshipers at his church and called on the police to carry out thorough investigations on the matter to bring the murderers on book. “The deceased was a believer who worshipped at my church. He was an honest man who hails from Congo. I wonder why someone would kill such an innocent man,” he decried.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident saying the body of the Congolese National had a deep cut on the back of the head and was lying beside the road in Ololulunga market. Beside the deceased was a youth who was unconscious as he had been seriously assaulted. He was rushed to Ololulunga Sub County Hospital before being referred to Narok County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
The body of the deceased was moved to Narok County Referral Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. Last month, residents of Narok town had raised an alarm over increased incidents of insecurity in the town and its surroundings as barely a week would end without a murder case being reported.
Police announced that they had increased patrols within the town and that they had arrested the main suspects involved in murder.
