Tree planting exercises were carried out on Friday at Masalani Girls primary school, Yussuf Haji girls secondary and Masalani boys’ secondary school where thousands of trees were planted to commemorate the National tree planting day and in memory of victims of recent floods in the country.

Addressing participants after the exercise, Ijara Deputy County Commissioner Wachira Champon reiterated the government’s aim to plant over 15 billion trees in the country to counter the effects of climate change in the country.

The tree planting exercises was conducted in the three schools in line with the presidential directive of planting trees to ensure that climate change challenges are addressed head on.

The Deputy County Commissioner was accompanying by the sub county security Committee, deputy director of education Mr Ibrahim odowa, Ijara youth leader Mr salah Yarrow and principals of various school in Masalani town, Ijara sub county, Garissa County.
