Two die in Narok accident

Accident

Two people lost their lives after they were involved in a road accident at Koitamugul area along the Narok- Bomet highway.

Narok County Traffic Enforcement Officer Felix Muli confirmed the last night’s accident saying it occurred when the driver of a Saloon car that was being driven from the Bomet direction hit a donkey which had emerged abruptly from the left side of the road.

The impact made the driver of the vehicle to lose control of the vehicle, colliding head on with an oncoming lorry, which was descending a steep area. The driver of the saloon car aged 26 years and one of his passengers aged 25 years died on the spot while the driver of the lorry and two occupants sustained injuries and were taken to Longisa Hospital in Bomet county for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased are lying at the same hospital morgue awaiting autopsy. The accident happened a few days after three people died and three others were seriously injured when the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in an accident at Sorgum area along the Ololulunga- Olmekenyu road.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) estimates that about 3000 people die in road accidents every year. Most of the accidents are estimated to occur over the weekends, during festivals and public holidays. Drink-drive and carelessness are cited as some of the major causes of road carnage, with 5pm to 8 am being considered as the peak hours for accidents.
