Two law enforcers in custody for aiding a murder suspect to escape from cells

Kiamaciri Police Station in Mwea sub county

Two policemen suspected to have assisted a murder suspect to escape from lawful custody have been arrested. The two attached at Kiamaciri Police Station in Mwea sub county in Kirinyaga county are linked with the escape of the murder suspect identified Phillipino Muifi, 23, a Ugandan national on Friday, when they were on duty;

 Preliminary reports indicate a Ugandan national was arrested in Nakuru two weeks ago, and detained at the police station after the court allowed the investigating officer to continue interrogating him for 14 days.

 The suspect went missing on Friday last week alongside another suspect who has since been arrested. They allegedly broke a pipe in the cells before their escape. Muifi was detained over the murder of his employer Rose Muthoni Kariuki in November 2023. He fled with the deceased’s mobile phone.

Kirinyaga County Commander Andrew Naibei termed the incident as unfortunate.

He assured the family of the late Kariuki that they will find justice for the murder of their kin. ” We appeal to the public to assist the police to arrest the suspect to face justice,” said Naibei.
