The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu has approved the appointment of Evans Kipruto Kapkea as the new governor of Uasin Gishu after the resignation of the outgoing deputy county boss Eng. John Barorot who resigned from the position last month after securing another lucrative deal elsewhere.
“Having completed the approval hearing for the nominee pursuant to Article 179 (2)(a)(b) and (4) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Section 32D of the County Governments Act 2012, Section 7(4)(5) and (6) of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017, the Committee Approves the nomination of Evans Kipruto Kapkea, as deputy Governor by His Excellency Governor of Uasin Gishu,” read the Statement from the County Assembly Speaker, Philip Muigei.
He indicated that the committee on appointments observed that the nominee met the integrity threshold and had the requisite abilities, academic qualifications and professional experience to be approved for appointment in line with Section 5 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017.
During his approval hearing at the County Assembly chambers, the new deputy governor who served as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Tembelio ward in Moiben Constituency vowed to uphold integrity and the rule of law as the principal assistant to the governor and undertaking any other roles as assigned by the Governor.
He indicated that his guiding laws and statutes are the PFM Act, 2012, County Governments ACT, Public Service Commission Act, Intergovernmental relations Act, 2011, Acts of Parliament, Act of County Assembly- Equalization Act, 2019.
He hinted that his focus will be strengthening and implementing existing policies to empower youth and Women and People with Disabilities (PWDs), noting that his focus had always been service to the community, helping the vulnerable in the society as he did not manage to secure any formal employment since his graduation from the university with a bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry.
