Unrest
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has attributed unequal resource distribution to the unrest witnessed in the country in the recent past.
Mentioning the recent allocation where he said Kikuyu Constituency alone was allocated a staggering Sh1.5 billion for road construction compared to the Sh200 billion allocated to the entire western region, Natembeya said such disparities in resource distribution could ignite discontentment in some quarters.
Speaking in Kwanza Constituency, Natembeya said there is need for the country’s leadership to coin strategies which will ensure equal resource distribution.
“As a country we have come from far and there is need to guard what we have gained for the interests of future generations. However, the unrest should act as a wakeup call to those of us in leadership.
There is a big paradigm shift in the country which reminds leaders to be conscious of the voices of those they lead. Some may dispute but the unrest has a big linkage to unfair resource distribution where some parts of the country feel neglected,” he said.
Urging the Luhya community to unite before seeking partnerships with other communities, Natembeya said the move will ensure votes are consolidated and increase their bargaining power. However, he reminded that since no community can work in isolation, seeking partnerships with other communities is a must.
