Vihiga county government has hammered a deal with the KOELAB health global ltd that would enable collaboration in the area of surgical works. The visiting team leader Dr Timothy Malindi, promised that his team would conduct a surgical camp in the county by the end of the year so that the residents with various disorders would be attended to.
Dr Malindi stated that they had decided to work with the county government so that they complement its efforts in providing quality health services to the people.
Governor Wilber Ottichilo pointed out that his administration has prioritised the health sector, considering the fact that a healthy people can ably steer the county to socio-economic development.
He stated that the 160-bed medical plaza at the county referral hospital will be completed soon and thereby expand the capacity of the hospital to accommodating more patients.
He added that they have in place a programme that aims at promoting maternal and child care where the mothers are encouraged to attend antenatal clinics, undertake skilled deliveries and are as well provided with postnatal care.
The programme, dubbed Ottichilocare, has seen a significant drop in maternal and newborn mortality rates since its inception five years ago.
