Food
As the World commemorates Humanitarian day, over 100 vulnerable families have benefited from food stuff courtesy of Red Cross International in collaboration with Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREW).
Speaking during the food distribution exercise at the Red cross offices in Narok town, Elijah Wachira, a representative from Red Cross said they chose to celebrate the day with the less fortunate people in the society to give them hope for a better future.
While citing the day’s theme ‘Act for humanity’, Wachira asked those privileged in the society to help the less fortunate so that they too can lead a decent life.
“The small acts of humility you show to people matters a lot because they bring a smile to a vulnerable person. We may not have a lot to feed all vulnerable people in the society, but together with other stakeholders, we try to reach out to as many as we can,” he said.
William Mwaura from CREW said most of the families that have benefited are those struggling to recover from the effects of flash floods two months ago where many families were misplaced. Street children in Narok town also had a special treat for the day as they benefitted from lunch and refreshments.
Mwaura said they chose to celebrate with the less fortunate because they too were part of the society and deserved a decent life like any other person.
“Every person received a package with sugar, rice, maize flour, bar soap, tea leaves and beans. Though this may not sustain them for many days, but it will put a smile on their faces for some days and they will remember that there are people out there who care for their lives,” he said. Paramai Nguruma, a beneficiary, thanked the organizers for the kind gesture saying their families were severely affected by the floods.
