Audit
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi appeared before the Senate Committee, Tuesday, to respond to audit queries regarding the financial reports of his predecessors.
The Senate Public Accounts Committee identified several irregularities and misstatements for the Financial Years 2018–2019, 2019–2020, 2020–2021 and 2021–2022, which would be highlighted in the forthcoming Report to be presented to the House.
“We noted some irregularities that need to be addressed during Governor Wamatangi’s tenure, including the hiring of a substantive County Secretary, clarifying the process for appointing liaison officers, and responding to the performance report from the Controller of Budget, among other issues,” Karungo Thang`wa, the Kiambu Senator said.
Wamatangi commended the Senate for its continued scrutiny of financial operations in the counties, which he noted would ensure the prudent use of public resources.
Last month, Governor Wamatangi appeared before the Senate Committee to address audit queries concerning various county funds, including the bursary and emergency funds. There have been growing differences between Wamatangi and Senator Thang’wa, judging by their past clashes with the public, insisting that they should work together instead of trying to outdo each other.
The Senator has, however, defended himself, stating that oversight was a key responsibility in his work, saying he was committed to fulfilling his oversight responsibilities in a non-partisan manner, to ensure that Kiambu County received value for its resources. Later, the Governor visited Senator Thang’wa in his office at Bunge Towers, and both had hearty conversation, agreeing to work together and communicate openly to address the challenges facing the County and deliver on their promises to the residents of Kiambu.
The Committee was Chaired by Homa Bay Senator, Moses Kajwang and in attendance were Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang`wa and members of the Kiambu County Assembly Public Accounts and Investment Committee, led by its Chairman, Kennedy Odhiambo, MCA Kahawa Sukari Ward.
