Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi along with other Kiambu leaders yesterday inspected the progress of the Githunguri Stadium construction. The stadium is being constructed by the County Government of Kiambu under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
It is currently in its first phase of construction, which involves building a perimeter wall that is almost complete. The subsequent phases will mainly involve leveling the ground and planting grass.
Speaking after inspection tour at the Githunguri Stadium, Governor Wamatangi assured residents of the stadium being completed soon together with other projects in the area. He further promised to construct modern kiosks along the wall after its completion that will be allocated to the residents to carry on small businesses.
Osman Korar the CECM Youth Affairs and Sports stated that the stadium will be of international standards and will benefit the residents especially the youth through recreational and sporting activities
The Githunguri Township Ward MCA, Joseph Muhinja, noted that with the support of the County administration through the Department of Sports, the Githunguri Seniors Football Club has made it to the finals and will be playing in the Wamatangi Champions Cup football finals at Kirigiti Stadium on June 30
“The stadium will be of great benefit to the people of Githunguri. We thank the County administration under the leadership of Governor Wamatangi.
Wamatangi revealed other major projects that are in the making which include the construction of Githunguri Town Market, budgeted at Ksh 550 million, and the completion of Githunguri Town Hospital, a project that the governor said will kick off in September this year.
Regarding street lighting, Wamatangi said that in the next two months, solar lamps will be installed in Githunguri Town and along dark paths throughout Githunguri Sub- County/ At the same time, Wamatangi awarded bursary cheques to various schools in Githunguri, where students received between Ksh 5,000 and Ksh 10,000.
The Governor noted that under his administration, bursaries will be awarded five times each academic year.
The Governor was accompanied by Osman Korar, the CECM for Youth Affairs and Sports, Ms. Emily Nkoroi, Chief Officer in charge of Vocational Training and Social Services, . Joseph Muhinja, the area MCA, Charles Kang’ethe, (Ngewa Ward,) and Cedric Gachunga, (Ikinu Ward)
